The Difference Between Endurance Training, Strength Training Or Powerlifting

Powerlifting is a type of weightlifting in which people aim to move as much weight as possible. Endurance training refers to training the aerobic system as opposed to the anaerobic system so it will focus more on stamina within the lifts rather than quick bursts. Strength training combines the two so it is designed to improve both your overall strength and endurance. 

The main difference between these types of exercise is the amount of weight lifted. Strength training uses heavier weights for fewer repetitions and powerlifting uses the heaviest weights for the fewest repetitions.

Another difference is the amount of time each type of exercise is performed. Strength training is performed for shorter periods of time, usually between 30 seconds and 5 minutes at a time and powerlifting is performed for even shorter periods of time, usually between 1 and 10 seconds at a time. 

Endurance training

Endurance training is any type of exercise that is performed for long periods of time, usually more than an hour. It uses lighter weights for a higher number of repetition and can be aerobic or anaerobic.

Aerobic endurance training is any type of exercise that keeps your heart rate elevated for extended periods of time. Aerobic endurance training can be done with or without weights. Examples of aerobic endurance training include walking, running, cycling, and swimming.

Anaerobic endurance training is any type of exercise that is performed at high intensity for short periods of time. Anaerobic endurance training usually lasts for less than 10 minutes at a time. Anaerobic endurance training is typically performed with weights.

Strength Training

The essentials of strength training and conditioning is any type of exercise that is performed for shorter periods of time, usually between 30 seconds and 5 minutes at a time before resting. Strength training uses heavier weights than endurance training. The goal of this type of training is to build muscle and strength.

Examples of strength-training include weight lifting and bodyweight exercises such as press ups and pull-ups.

Powerlifting

Powerlifting is a type of exercise that is performed for even shorter periods of time, usually between 1 and 10 seconds at a time. Powerlifting uses the heaviest weights of all three types of exercise. The goal of powerlifting is to build explosive power and strength.

Powerlifting focuses on the main 3 compound lifts, squat, bench press and deadlift. Accessory exercises will also be performed in the session to help work towards the goal of lifting the heaviest weight. The accessories which would be needed to avoid injuries are powerlifting belts and shoes.
